Zog Activity Trail at Forestry England

We had a go at the Zog Activity Trail when we visited Beechenhurst in The Forest of Dean whilst we were away on holiday. However, you can also find the Zog Activity Trail at Alice Holt in Surrey and Wendover Woods on the edge of The Chiltern Hills which are the closest two trails to Berkshire.

What included in the Zog Activity Trail?

The Zog Trail activity pack costs £4 which you buy when you arrive at a Forestry England site.

In the bag you get a pair of dragon wings which you can decorate and wear, a paper bag to colour in, Zog glasses, stickers including the all important golden stars, a trail leaflet, pencil and crayon.

There is also the Zog Trail App (Download here) which you can download. It gives you extra activities and interactions as you go around.

We found the trail good fun and enjoyed the interactive challenges around the walk. We have done several of the Forestry England trails before and our children have always really enjoyed them.

As you walk around the trail you collect golden stars and your little dragons learn more about the forest. The trail explores senses and how to care for the woodlands around us.

Where do we collect a trail from?

Once parked head to the visitor centre at the Forestry England site and you will be able to purchase the activity pack.

How long does the trail take?

The trail took us about 1 hour, but that was with stopping to do the activities and using the App and emersing ourselves in the activities. The walk we did at Beechenhurst, Forest of Dean was a gentle walk, suitable for younger walkers. I would assume it will be similar at all Forestry England sites.

What age is the trial aimed at?

The trail is aimed at children aged 3 – 9 years old.

What else is there to do?

At Alice Holt you will find the wooden Gruffalo Sculptures which are also fun to see. There is also Go Ape, a cafe, play area and other walking trails.

At Wendover Woods you will find Gruffalo orienteering, Go Ape, a play trail and cafe.
