What’s On in Berkshire – February Half Term 2019

There are a large number events and activities taking place in Berkshire over the February Half Term, some of which are shared below, in date order.

Cliveden’s February Half Term Tree Trail, Cliveden – National Trust, Taplow, Saturday 16th February 2019 – Sunday 24th February 2019, 10am – 2.30pm, Trail Price: £2 per child, admissions charges apply to enter the estate. Suitable for aged 3+ years. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Collect trail from the tent next to the information centre. During the trail, children will take on the role of nature detective and will explore Cliveden’s gardens and woodlands, finishing up with a tree-themed craft to take home. Half Term at Basildon Park, Basildon Park – National Trust, Reading. Saturday 16th February 2019 – Sunday 24th February 2019. There are two trails to pick from, the trails are £2 each or £3 if you do both trails. Admission prices apply. You can either discover the wildlife live in the parkland and find out what they are doing at this time of year or you can choose the Wild Play Trail and explore 20 play stations, which includes a ball-run, den building and sensory room. Spring in your Step Family Trail, Nature Discovery Centre, Thatcham, Saturday 16th February 2019 – Sunday 24th February 2019. 11am – 3pm, £1.50 (includes a small prize for one child) + 50p for each additional child. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Collect trail sheets from the visitor centre. On the trail you will explore the reserve, allowing you to look more closely at some of the nature neighbour and maybe some early signs of spring. Click here for more information.

Treasure Hunt Competition, over half term week Birch Hill, Great Hollands and Harmans Water Libraries are holding treasure hunts. If you take part you will be entered into the competition. Once Upon a Time at The Lexicon, Bracknell, Monday 18th February 2019 – 22nd February 2019. Head down to the Fairy Tale Forest at The Lexicon. Join Little Red Reading Hood and the Wild Wolf on a magical storytelling adventure, exploring all your favourite fairy tales. Suitable for children aged 3 – 10 years. The Magic Tinderbox, Woodley Library, Monday 18th February 2019, 2.30pm-3.30pm. Join The Enchanted Players Theatre Company in this show about a solider on a special journey, we ask the children to help him with his important decisions, The moral being: “To be happy with what you have, not to crave from more.” with free face painting after the show. £5 per person, please book tickets directly with Woodley Library. Woolly Mammoths, Windsor & Royal Borough Museum, Tuesday 19th February 2019. Using the museums contemporary craft display as inspiration, create your own artwork using wool and other materials. A local artist will be on hand to help you get creative. Sessions run from 10.30am -12.30pm and 1.30pm – 3.30pm and are aimed at ages 4-11 years. Chocolate Making Workshops with Chocolates for Chocoholics, Hurst, Tuesday 19th February 2019 – Thursday 21st February 2019, sessions start at 2pm daily and last for 30mins – 45mins. Either make a chocolate lolly or chocolate drops and take part in a chocolate quiz before packaging your chocolates to take home. Suitable for 8-16 year olds. Valentine’s Bake and Play, Cobbs Play Barn, Hungerford, Tuesday 19th February 2019, 1pm – 3pm, £12 per child. Places limited – to book please contact 01488 686770 or email play@cobbsplaybarn.co.uk. Bake and decorate butterfly cupcakes to take home for your Valentine followed by a play at the Play Barn. All ingredients and equipment will be supplied plus squash. Quirks Animal Roadshow, Wargrave Library, Wednesday 20th February 2019, 11am-12noon and Wokingham Library, Thursday 21st February 2019, 11am–12noon. Make and Take: Museum Superheros, Reading Museum, Reading, Wednesday 20th February 2019, 10am-2.30pm (half-hour sessions 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm), £1 pay on the day, drop in*session. Bring your family and your favourite superhero toys along to Reading Museum. Design a mask and accessories, then take your photo in our selfie corner. *Please note – Drop in sessions are very popular. Half-term Family Archaeology and Crafts, Maidenhead Heritage Centre, Maidenhead, Thursday 21st February 2019, 10.30am – 12.30pm. There will be archaeological discovery, aeroplane making and clay model creating. £3 per child plus booking fee. Suitable for 4-7 year olds. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Catching the Sun, Windsor & Royal Borough Museum, Thursday 21st February 2019, Get creative by using old CD’s and bottle tops to make a decorative sun catcher to hang by the window and welcome in spring. A local design entrepreneur will be on hand to inspire your creativity during the afternoon session. Sessions run from 10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-3.30pm and are aimed at ages 4-11 years.
