Wassail’s in Berkshire

According to English Oxford Living Dictionaries the historical definition to Wassail is: ‘Historical with object (in south-western England) drink to (fruit trees, typically apple trees) in a custom intended to ensure a fruitful crop’.

Wassail, Lily Hill Park, Bracknell, Saturday 11th January 2020, 5.30pm-7pm. £4 per person (book here, ticket sales close at 9am, Friday 10th January). Meet at North Car Park, RG12 2RX. Suitable for all.

The Wassail will take place by firelight. You are invited to bring cider (over 18 only, please drink sensibly) or apple juice.

Lily Hill Park Orchard

Wassail, Nature Discovery Centre, Thatcham, Sunday 12th January 2020, 1.30pm start. Bring along friends and family as well as musical instruments and pots and pans to bash. During the event you will walk around the orchard blessing the trees and singing.

1.30pm: Make tin drums and shakers (in the visitor centre)

1.50pm: Crown the King and Queen of the Wassail (outside the visitor centre)

2pm: (Outside the visitor centre) noisy procession to the Community Orchard led by the Kennet Morris Men. Then the Wassail will take place followed by cake and apple based drinks.

The event is free but donations are towards the care of the orchard are appreciated. No booking required just turn up, meet at the Discovery Centre. Click here for more information about the event.

Walk ‘n’ Wassail, Jealott’s Hill Community Landshare, Warfield, 26th January 2020

1.5 hours walk through Warfield countryside, starts at 12.30pm

Shorter accessible guided walk upto an hour, starts at 1.15pm

2.30pm – Wassail Orchard Ceremony with Morris Dancers and Bonfire
