Review // The St George and Dragon, Wargrave, Reading

On Wednesday 20th February 2019, I visited The St George and Dragon with my husband, father and little one. I was invited, with three guests to look around the newly refurbished pub and to taste their new menu. I was gifted the meal with my family in exchange for writing a review about our evening at the restaurant. I have recently also been gifted meals in exchange for review at sister pubs The Warren, Wokingham and The Red Lion, Stoke Green – do click on the links if you fancy a read about my meal and experience at these restaurants.

The St George and Dragon has a great large modern bar space, comfy relaxed seating areas where you can enjoy a drink, next to the real fire and dining areas overlooking the River Thames. There is also a private dining area in one corner of the pub which would be perfect for celebrating special occasions with friends and family.

My favourite aspect of the pub however, was the refurbished outdoor decking space overlooking the River Thames. I can’t wait to take a trip back to the pub in the Summer months for a drink or meal. It would be lovely to sit outdoors and to be able to watch the boats and wildlife go by in the sunshine.

During our visit, we were treated to a platter of canapes, which we enjoyed with drinks prior to being seated in the restaurant. We were lucky enough to get a seat near the open fire, overlooking river. I ordered my little one a children’s pizza, whilst we were enjoying canapes and the restaurant were extremely accommodating, ensuring the children’s main course was ready for when we sat down to order our food. Us adults enjoyed the Soup of the Day, Crispy Chicken Kaarage and Salt and Pepper Squid for starters. For mains, we sampled the Lamb Kofters, Buttermilk Chicken and Chicken, Leek and Crème Fraiche Pie. My little one asked for a scoop of chocolate and strawberry ice-cream for pudding and our table shared the melting chocolate and peanut bomb for pudding, I am glad we shared this rich dish as it was indulgent and yummy but we were very full after all the other food we were treated to.

Thank you to all the staff at The St George and Dragon for a lovely evening. We look forward to returning in the summer. The pub re-opens to the public on Saturday 23rd February 2019.

*#AD, I was #gifted the meal for four at The St George and Dragon at their media preview, in exchange for a review on the Berkshire Mummies blog. Views are my own. I have also previously reviewed two sister pubs where I was #gifted meals; The Warren at Wokingham and The Red Lion, Stoke Poges. Click here to view the Berkshire Mummies disclaimer.*
