Review // Children’s Book Review of Books by Authors; Rachel Jane, Tina Stubbs and Sophie Valentine

I have recently been gifted five children’s books by three local authors; Rachel Jane, Tina Stubbs and Sophie Valentine in exchange for reviewing them on the Berkshire Mummies blog. It has been a real treat to be able to read all of these books on various subjects to my little one and below I share a review of each of the books sent to me.

Milo Goes To The Seaside written by Rachel Jane and Illustrated by Jamie Flack

Rachel Jane’s first book is titled Milo Goes To The Seasideand I have really enjoyed reading this book to my little one, we love our family adventures to the seaside so it was a great story to relate to. The illustrations by Jamie Flack were clear, bright and engaging for the young audience and my little one loved finding the key landmarks on the pages whilst Milo was on his seaside journey e.g. a windmill, town and waterfall. The book is a lovely rhyming story of friendship as Billy the Bird guides Milo the Camper Van to the seaside where they have a busy and action-packed day before safely returning back home after their adventurous day. The book subtly discusses that the sea and tide can be dangerous if not observed and respected.

Lil’s Cupcake Delivery written by Rachel Jane and Illustrated by Jamie Flack

Rachel Jane’s second and most recent book Lil’s Cupcake Deliverytells a story all about Lil the Campervan who is on a mission to help Mrs. Clark, who runs the bakery, delivering all of her customers cupcakes and a wedding cake to the wedding show. After successfully delivering the cupcakes, Lil manages to damage the wedding cake and heads back to the bakery to explain what happened to Mrs. Clark. All is fine however, as Mrs. Clark makes a tower of cupcakes for the wedding show instead. The cupcakes are a success and delivered with time to spare and everyone is happy especially the wedding show guests who get to taste them! Again, the book is beautifully illustrated and the story shows that things don’t always go to plan but you can find a solution.

Flu Bug written by Tina Stubbs

Flu Bug by Tina Stubbs is a story all about Flu Bug and how he likes to spread his germs and share himself. Flu Bug is a great rhyming book to read to little ones, it’s full of vibrant illustrations and explains in an engaging way how the flu can be caught and make you feel. The book also has some helpful hints of how you can try and keep the flu bug away.

Doodle Bug written by Tina Stubbs

Doodle Bug by Tina Stubbs is a book all about respecting others. Doodle Bug loves to draw and doodle, so much so he doodles on anything. He doodles all over his house until there is no room left for anymore doodles. So, he then heads outside to find somewhere else to paint and draw. He soon gets told off for drawing on others property, by a lady who coincidentally owns an art gallery. The lady channels Doodle Bugs creativity by getting him to create images for her gallery rather than decorating the streets. I found this fun story has a great message to share with little ones about where is a good place to draw and be creative, with the key message coming out of the story being about respecting others and their belongings and in-return they will hopefully be sharing and caring back.

Tina Stubbs runs Workshops and Training sessions, Author Visits and After Schools Clubs. Plus, she has a series of other bug books on offer. To find out more please visit www.lifeslittlebugs.co.uk.

Believe in Pixie Hart written by Sophie Valentine and Illustrated by Lucy Littler

Sophie Valentine wrote Believe in Pixie Hartwhich was written for her inspiration, her daughter Lola. I thought the book was beautifully illustrated and my little one was drawn by the colours and pictures which were appealing throughout the book and started many conversations. The story is based around Pixie and her class going on a school trip for a forest adventure, during which the class get lost but Pixie Hart helps them to find their way back to the bus… I will continue to read this story to my little one as it has some great messages which I feel are important to take with us in life including perseverance, self-believe, individuality and confidence.

Sophie Valentine is currently running a deal for her book over on her website up until the end of February 2019. You can purchase the book for £6.99 including postage.
