(AD) Family Sunday Lunch at The Bird In Hand

(AD) This blog post ‘Family Sunday Lunch at The Bird In Hand’ in Knowl Hill is written in paid partnership with The Bird in Hand who kindly invited Berkshire Mummies to review Sunday Lunch at the pub. Views are honest and those of Berkshire Mummies.

A little bit about The Bird in Hand

The Bird In Hand is a 14th century inn which is located in Knowl Hill not far from Maidenhead, Henley on Thames and Hurley. The pub and restaurant also has accommodation so a great option if you have a friends or family visiting the area. The pub and restaurant prides itself on their passion for great food and drink focussing on seasonality and local produce.

The Bird In Hand recently appointed a new Head Chef, Samuel who leads the team in the kitchen. Samuel has previously been a sous chef at The White Oak, Cookham and junior sous at the one star Royal Oak, Paley Street.

About our visit

Our visit to The Bird In Hand was our first family meal out since the first lockdown began and our toddlers first experience of ever eating out in a restaurant! The pub staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating especially to our little people. Upon being seated indoors at our table the children were given colouring crayons and an activity sheet each to help keep them busy whilst we waited for our food.

There was a wide choice of food on the menu for both children and adults. The children had a set menu which included a drink, main (a choice of roast or other classic) and pudding – both our children had sausage, chips, peas and broccoli plus chocolate ice cream – they were both happy and enjoyed their meals, they were on the generous in size so didn’t quite finish their food.

My husband enjoyed both the specials, the squid for starters and roast lamb for mains, finished off with the sticky toffee pudding. I had the carver duck terrine followed by the belly pork and panna cotta – the food was fantastic and the presentation was creative and colourful.

The food all got a thumbs up from us and was delicious, plus all the roasts on the menu came with a giant Yorkshire pudding and amazing roast potatoes which got an extra tick from us. Click here to view the Sunday Menu and Children’s Menu.

If you are looking for somewhere for a family friendly meal with a tasty selection of food The Bird in Hand should be added to your list.

Was there any outdoor space?

There is outdoor seating in addition to indoor seating and a small grassed area, which our two children enjoyed running around, but there is no play equipment.

Is there anywhere nearby for a walk?

After our meal we went for a walk along the River Thames at Hurley which was about a 10 minute drive away and worth a visit.
