Country Parks to Visit in the Summer Holidays

FREE Country Parks in Berkshire

California Country Park is a lovely place to visit for a few hours. There is a great new play area here which has equipment for older and younger children to play on. You can also take a walk around the lake. There is a paddling pool here which is open during the Summer months (you do need to pay to use this in advance). There is a café here too. California Country Park is free to enter but please note you will need to pay to park.

Dinton Pastures Country Park is lovely no matter what the weather. You can read about one of out visits here. The play area is fantastic and well spread out with play equipment for all ages. It’s a great place to go walking as well. There is a a lovely little Adventure Golf Course here (charges do apply). There is somewhere to get refreshments by the car parks. Please note that whilst it is free to walk around and play at Dinton you will need to pay for the car park.

Snelsmore Common has lots of different walking route options and is made up of a range of habitats which include woodlands, wet mires and heathland. There are wild Exmoor and New Forest Ponies that live on the common during the months of March-July so you might spot them if you’re lucky. You can read about one of our walks here. For a longer walk you can head over towards Donnington Castle, this is a circular walk of approximately 3.6 miles. The castle also makes for a good stop on its own.

The Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham is made up of a series of lakes. There are lots of birds to be seen so make sure you look out for the identification boards around the site so that you can identify the birds you see. You can read about our visit here. At the visitor centre you will find a map of the lakes and three walking trail routes that you can take. There are also two good sized adventure playgrounds here. The car park is free.

*Wellington Country Park makes for a really fun family day out. There are lots of play areas for the children and animals to see. They quite often hold themed events as well. You can read our list of 10 things to do at Wellington Country Park here.

Country Parks in Buckinghamshire

Black Park Country Park has lots to offer including Go Ape, a cafe, a walk around the lake and a play area. You can read more about our visit and what you can do here.

Country Parks in Hampshire

Hawley Farm Country Park is made up of open fields with hard standing paths running through the green space. There is also a nice little play area which is made up of a range of wooden play equipment. There is a nature play trail to follow as well. You can read more about our visit here.

Country Parks in Surrey

Lightwater Country Park is a brilliant open space to explore. Although the Country Park is in Surrey is isn’t far from the Berkshire boarder. Alongside the nature trails there is a great play area. The walks around the lakes flat and buggy friendly. Parking is free of charge at the country park. You can read more about our visit here.
