A visit to Bracknell Market

If Bracknell Market is on when we are at The Lexicon we will often stop and purchase some fresh fruit, generally strawberries because we can’t resist the look of them when we walk past! The fruit stall always looks so appealing and there is always a great selection of fruit and vegetables on offer. The market is set up outside Princess Square and has a range of traders including bakery items, meats, fresh cut flowers and more. There are also catering vans set up so you can buy a range of cuisines including Indian, Jamaican, Italian and more. There is a posted on the Bracknell Market Facebook page which tells you which suppliers will be a the market on which date. A visit to Holme Grange Craft Village, Wokingham

Holme Grange Craft Village based in Wokingham, Berkshire is made up of a range of independent retailers. We have visited the craft village before to go to Brickies Club. The shops are all set in converted barns and include Pottery Pals, The Sweet Cabin, Handmade Craft Company, children's wear shop This Little Piggy and Sewisfaction who alongside selling fabric run a number of creative craft classes for both children and adults. Fletchers Greengrocers at Ashridge Manor Garden Centre, Wokingham

Whilst visiting Ashridge Manor Garden Centre, The Farm Cafe for brunch we then had a look around some of the independent retailers shops. One of the shops we visited was Fletchers Greengrocers. The shop was brilliant with a great selection of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as a good selection of Field Fare frozen food produce. You could buy all sorts in the shop including flour, bread, chutneys, yoghurt and more. The shop was almost like a Farm Shop with a passion for fruit and vegetables.  Upon looking up the shop after our visit I learnt they are 4th generation greengrocers, originally based in Peach Street, Wokingham from 1949. The service was brilliant and we had a real laugh whilst in the store. During our visit we purchased some delicious fresh fruit, some Field F...

Windsor Farmers’ Market

Windsor Farmers’ Market takes place on the 1st Saturday of the month, 9am - 1pm and we decided to visit on Saturday 2nd March 2019 for the first time. There were about 16 stall holders selling a range of food and drink plus a petting farm and candle stall by Sunningdale Candle Co when we visited the market. It was lovely talking to the stall holders and sample their offering. We tasted pies, cheese from, honey and curry sauce whilst going around the stalls and we came away with two pots of Yogi Mamas Indian Curry Sauce which we paid full price for, and ate a tub of that evening as a chicken curry and it was delicious. We found it particularly interesting talking to the lovely Simply Raw Milk about their milk and it's heritage. It was wonderful to hear about their family far

Our Half Term visit to The Fairy Tale Forest at The Lexicon, Bracknell

On the Tuesday of the February Half Term we visited The Fairy Tale Forest at The Lexicon. I had pre-booked tickets online and paid full price for our tickets - £2 per child plus a booking fee of 30p and I was free of charge as an accompanying adult (there is a charge for additional adults). The Fairy Tale Forest is on until 22nd February 2019 and you are advised to book tickets online to avoid disappointment. Upon arrival, we were checked into the event and children were asked to sit on bean bags underneath a giant inflatable green leaf. The decoration certainly helped set the scene for the story telling. There was also seating provided for the adults. Little Red Reading Hood and the Wild Wolf then introduced themselves and led the session which lasted about 20 minutes. The audienc

The Lego Brick Safari and Treasure Hunt at The Lexicon, Bracknell

Yesterday 1st August 2018 saw the launch of The Lexicon's Lego Brick Safari and Treasure Hunt. A number of Lego animals have moved into the shopping centre for a few weeks during the school holidays including a giant Elephant, Lion and Crocodile. There are large animals around the shopping centre all made out of Lego bricks. We went to see them today and thought the Lego models were really impressive with the lion and elephant being our favourite. Next to each large animal there was a sign which explained how many hours it took to make each sculpture - a lot of hours and hardwork went into creating the creatures. Then there are an additional 10 lego brick animal sculptures hidden around the shops. The Lexicon are running a Treasure Hunt which you can enter until 14th August 2018, ...

Grays Farm, Fruit Picking, Wokingham

Last weekend we headed to Grays Farm to ‘pick your own’. I have not been fruit picking for years and last week we decided that it would be a lovely family activity to do outside in the sunshine at the weekend. So we headed to Gray’s Farm to pick strawberries on Saturday afternoon and all three of us loved the 'pick your own' experience. The pick your own farm was busy but there was still room for everyone to pick their own fruits and vegetables. I was pleasantly surprised by the array of fruit and vegetables on offer, as any other ‘pick your own’ farm I had previously been to (in a different part of the country) only tended to offer soft fruit picking. At Gray’s Farm you could pick strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, red currants, black currants, beetroots, runner beans, spinach,

The Spring Garden at The Lexicon, Bracknell

During the Easter holidays we visited The Spring Garden at The Lexicon and had a wonderful 1/2 hour. The Spring Garden was a pop-up experience in Princess Square. We pre-booked our space via the Lexicon's website and just turned up 5 minutes before our allocated session.  Upon arrival we were welcomed by two really helpful and friendly members of staff and then invited into the Spring Garden, the decoration and setting was magical and we were met by the Daffodil Princess. We were then taken to a table where we got to decorate a ceramic bird feeder with brightly coloured and metallic pens. Whilst taking part in the craft activity two flower people also came to say hello who captivated my little ones imagination. About half way through the session we were then invited to sit...
