AD – Review // The Fir Tree, Norden Farm

AD – Review // The Fir Tree, Norden Farm

On Monday, 26th November 2018, I took my little one to Norden Farm, Maidenhead to see their Christmas production, The Fir Tree written by Tove Jannson. I was kindly given two tickets by Norden Farm in exchange for reviewing the show. After collecting our tickets from the box office there were plenty of members of staff on hand to ask questions to and to direct us to our seats in the theatre. The set was on display on the stage when we arrived, for us this was great as it allowed my little one to ask questions and build anticipation…

Sunninghill Victorian Street Fayre 2018

Sunninghill Victorian Street Fayre 2018

Today we spent a lovely family day at Sunninghill Victorian Street Fayre. It is the first time we have been to the event and there was a real community feel throughout the village. The High Street and school playground was lined with stalls selling a variety of food, drink and gifts, plus charities were raising money. There were fairground rides, Punch and Judy, Father Christmas and live music. The local shops were also open for the community to utilise. A marching bagpipe band processed up the High Street and there was an opportunity to sit in a Ghost Busters car.…

Swan Upping 2018

Swan Upping 2018

Today we witnessed Swan Upping for the first time and I feel extremely honoured to have been able to see this event. My little one also had the opportunity to stroke one of the cygnets, who was a couple of months old and the Swan Uppers took the time to explain what they were doing and were great with the children (and adults) observing the historic event. The Queen’s Swan Warden collects data on the swans in the River Thames and checks the health of the cygnets. Swan Upping is a fantastic sight to see as a number of rowing…

A day at West Wittering Beach

A day at West Wittering Beach

On Sunday 24th June we headed for a day on the beach at West Wittering in Chichester. It’s one of our favourite beaches to visit, especially as it’s a sandy beach with good car parking facilities (we paid £8.50 to park for the day, which we paid by card on arrival) and is generally a relatively straight forward journey from Berkshire, traffic dependant. We arrived at about 10.30am and the car park was very busy but there was still room to park. The beach was also busy but due to its size it still felt to me as though there…

‘Spring Fever’ Open Day at Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre

‘Spring Fever’ Open Day at Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre

On Bank Holiday Monday we took a family trip to Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre for their 'Spring Fever' Open Day which was free of charge. The Falconry Centre is based at Ladds Garden Village in Hare Hatch, Reading. The Open Day took place between 11am - 4pm and there was an opportunity to meet the owls and pose for a picture, which cost £1. There were Falconers Talks next to the baby Harris Hawks during the day, lots of interesting facts and games around the Falconry Centre as well as craft activities, a discovery table and there was a…

All Aboard at Pinewood (Wokingham) Miniature Railway

All Aboard at Pinewood (Wokingham) Miniature Railway

*This post was written pre-covid. Keep an eye on the miniature railway webpage for updates of when the railway may re-open. We visited the Pinewood Miniature Railway situated between Wokingham and Crowthorne on 15th April 2018. It’s certainly popular and we queued for about 15 minutes for a ride on one of the miniature trains. There were about 4 trains in operation so the queue kept moving all the time. Whilst waiting it was great fun just watching the trains (a mixture of electric and steam) leaving and returning to the station and it meant that my little one didn’t…

A family trip to Dinton Pastures Country Park

A family trip to Dinton Pastures Country Park

We took a family trip to Dinton Pastures Country Park during the first weekend of February half term. Despite it being cold the sky was bright blue and the sun was shining. We arrived at about 10am on the Sunday morning and parked in the overflow car park as the main car park was already full (parking charges apply). First of all we went for a walk around the lake. There were lots of ducks and geese to look at and plenty of muddy puddles! Our walk was lovely and it was fantastic to be outside in the fresh air,…

A Half Term Outing to Bracknell

A Half Term Outing to Bracknell

Today we took a trip into Bracknell. The outing was planned as there were a few advertised activities taking place in and around the town and I thought it was a great opportunity to get out of the house during half term, without spending a fortune. We parked in The Avenue car park at The Lexicon and paid £2.50 (charge for 1-2 hours parking). Firstly, we headed to Bracknell Library as there was a free Guide Dog Event. The library was busy with families visiting and we got the chance to meet 5 guide dogs - there were puppies who…
