AD – Review // Little Learners Messy Play Pack

Disclosure: This review is a paid partnership with Little Learners Windsor. Berkshire Mummies was also gifted some of the items alongside the experience. I love setting up activities and crafts for my children but was delighted when Bernice from Little Learners Windsor, Maidenhead and Slough got in touch and offered for us to try out a Little Learners Messy Play Pack to use at home. Lockdown has been pretty full on in terms of crafting and activities. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy doing them but it was lovely to have ‘a few days off’! It meant that I could have a week off preparing activities and making sure I had enough resources. I think the Messy Play Packs are also great for those less confident with coming up with activities for their children or those who at this point i

Walking at Buckler’s Forest, Crowthorne

Last week, during the week we went Walking at Buckler's Forest, Crowthorne. The walk is adjacent to a new housing estate, Buckler's Park which is still being built and covers 100 acres of forest, grasslands, heathland and ponds. The site was once the former Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) and on your walk you may see some existing features of the research site including the fire tower. The area to walk in felt vast with all the ponds and tall forest trees. There are a number of different set paths you could take and from the car park there were information boards about the different walks and estimated walk times. The paths were flat and buggy friendly and well maintained. The walk is also dog friendly. When we went walking at Buckler's Forest, Crowthorne we fo...

Walking at Englemere Pond Nature Reserve, Ascot

This week we went walking at Englemere Pond Nature Reserve, Ascot. The 68.2 acre site is made up of woodland, heathland and a giant pond which I would describe more as a 'lake'. The site is of special scientific interest for its rare wetland plants and animals found on the site. If you start at the car park you will find a map of the site, which has two trails marked on it. The Dragonfly Trial (approx 40 minutes) and The Woodpecker Trail (approx 20 minutes). There are then wooden markers around the nature reserve which help you follow a set path. You will find boardwalks and set managed paths throughout plus a viewing platform over the ‘lake’ itself. The walks are flat, dog friendly and also buggy friendly. We got the buggy round the walk but it was a little bumpy in plac

Walking at Bramshot Farm Country Park, Fleet

We went walking at Bramshot Farm Country Park, Fleet, which, I know isn't in Berkshire but was worth the drive. The walk is about 13.5 miles away from Bracknell (approx 19 minutes drive on a good traffic day according to google!). We went on an overcast Friday afternoon. There were about 15 cars in the car park and it was nice and quiet with plenty of room for everyone. I suspect on sunnier days and weekends it will be busier. What impressed me the most about Bramshot Country Park is how well managed and maintained the 91 acres site was. The country park is made up of open meadows and woodland. There are designated paths to follow, which are very well sign posted and we started on the 'Leaping Hare Loop' and ended up merging onto 'Old Oak Way' half way through a...

A walk at Frost Folly

Frost Folly Country Park is part of the Warfield Parish in Bracknell Forest and consists of wildflower meadows, ponds and the opportunity to walk to Warfield Church if desired, otherwise there are plenty of paths to explore within the meadows themselves, we really enjoy a walk at Frost Folly. The Spring and Summer months are a great time to explore the country park as the wildflowers are in bloom and you can see daisies for as far as the eye can see. They make a great photo opportunity and Frost Folly is a popular location for local professional photographers. The walk is dog friendly, although there are nesting birds which you are asked to respect during nesting season. We have found you can get an off road buggy around the paths but it is bumpy in places. There is a fre...

Butterfly Awareness Day

In June we take part in The Wildlife Trusts #30dayswild so thought some butterfly activities for Butterfly Awareness Day on 6th June 2020 would tie in nicely. In this post are a couple of activities you could do at home and some on a walk to help you raise your awareness and appreciation of butterflies. Butterfly Stamps Make a sponge stamp to print butterflies. It's a quick and simple activity to set up. All you need is a rectangular sponge, a pipe cleaner, paint, paper and a pen. Wrap a pipe cleaner around the centre of your sponge to create two wings. Dip the sponge in paint or paint the sponge and print some butterflies on a piece of paper - why not try with different colours and patterns? Once dry draw on a face, antenna, body and any extra details onto your butterfly...
