We are fortunate enough to have a great many places to visit for a day out in Berkshire. Here are some attractions in Berkshire.

Legoland Windsor – this is one of Berkshire’s most popular places to visit. The theme park has plenty of rides and experiences to suit the whole family and makes for a wonderful day out. Natural History Museum Eton, Windsor – The museum is part of Eton College and is free to enter. It is set on two levels and is packed full of items from the natural world. There are often trails for the children to follow around the museum. You can read about our visit here.

*Jakes Playworld, Sandhurst a great place for children, especially for toddlers and pre-schoolers, with a soft play, mini farm and a number of other attractions to keep the little ones entertained, plus beautiful lakes to admire and walk around. You can read about our visit here.

Brickies Play Centre, Wokingham – A visit to here is a must for all Lego fans young and old! We always have so much fun when we visit for a play session. It can be found in Holme Grange Craft Village in Wokingham. They also cater for birthday parties. You can read more about Brickies here.


The Look Out Discovery Centre, Bracknell – There are several different zones to explore in the centre, all with lots of hands on exhibits to try out. You can read about it here. There is also a fantastic outdoor play area.

*Wellington Country Park, Riseley – This is a wonderful place for a family day out with lots of play areas, animals nature trails, train rides and so much more. You can read more here.

Aldermaston Wharf – is home to part of the Kennet and Avon Canal and just 1.5 miles away from Aldermaston in West Berkshire. You can watch the boats going through the locks whist enjoying a walk along the footpaths. You can read about our visit here.

Nature Discovery Centre, Thatcham – The Nature Discovery Centre is made up of a series of lakes, there are lots of birds to be seen so make sure you look out for the identification boards around the site. You can read about one of our walks here. There is also a lovely play area here too.

Snelsmore Common, Newbury – Walking at Snelsmore Common has lots of different walking route options and is made up of a range of habitats which include woodlands, wet mires and heathland. There are wild Exmoor and New Forest Ponies that live on the common. Dinton Pastures Country Park, Hurst– Here you can walk around the lake or play in the large play area. There is a cafe here as well. There are lots of activities you can book here as well at the Dinton Activity Centre. You can read about our visit here.

*Dinton Adventure Golf, Hurst This is an 18 hole mini adventure golf course set in Dinton Pastures Country Park. The golf course has a British Wildlife theme and there are lots of animals to spot on the way around plus the country park setting also enhances the atmosphere. You can read about our visit here.

California Country Park, Wokingham – You can walk around the lake and the woodland here. You can read about it here. There is also a great play area and Jackson’s Cafe.

Lightwater Country Park (on the Berkshire/Surrey Border) – We have been to explore Lightwater Country Park on a number of occasions and enjoy walking through the woodlands and around the ponds. Alongside the nature trails there is a great play area. Windsor Great Park  is open all year round and there are so many different areas for families to explore, from walks and farm shops to the new * Adventure Play Area. You can read our 10 Things to do in Windsor Great Park here.

BCA Zoo, Maidenhead This is a small zoo but packed full of interesting animals from mini beasts to monkeys. You can read about our visit here.


*Tumblestone Hollow, Henley on Thames this is a mysteriously magical adventure playground set in the grounds of Stonor Park in Oxfordshire, just outside Henley-on-Thames. The wooden Adventure Playground here is incredible and great for children up to the age of 12years. They quite often hold special events during the school holidays. You can read more here.

Cheese Shed in Nettlebed – The Cheese Shed is set in an open sided barn with extra seating outside the barn. The cheese toasties are incredible and are made from Highmoor and Witheridge cheese which are made on site at the Nettlebed Creamery. You can read about our visit here.

Museum of Berkshire Aviation, Woodley – The museum isn’t huge and is based at the historic site of Woodley Airfield, near Reading. It is crammed full of aircraft of all different shapes and sizes and plenty of aircraft artefacts and memorabilia. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to get a closer look at some planes. You can read more here.

Lapland UK, Ascot – Lapland UK is an immersive magical Christmas adventure set right here in Berkshire. Families can step into the secret Elven world and experience the true magic of Christmas with a visit to the Toy Factory, Mother Christmas, The Elven Village and of course Father Christmas himself.
