(AD) The Greyhound in Finchampstead

AD Disclaimer: I was kindly invited for a family meal at The Greyhound in exchange for an honest review of our experience.

The Greyhound in Finchampstead has recently been bought and refurbished by Brucan Pubs, which is owned by James Lyon-Shaw and Jamie Dobbin. We have previously reviewed sister pub, The Greene Oak in Windsor which we thoroughly enjoyed visiting and we couldn’t wait to try out The Greyhound.

The Dining Experience at The Greyhound

Upon arrival at The Greyhound we were taken to our table in the garden, as I had requested dining outside. My husband, toddler and I went for a mid-week lunch before the school run.

The service was excellent and the staff welcoming and attentive throughout our visit. We were also asked when we wanted the children’s meal to be served and it was brought out with our starters which worked well for us.

There was an excellent selection on the menu and both my husband and I had starters and main course each. My husband enjoyed the White onion and cider soup with duck pastie to start and the White Label double cheeseburger, pickles, triple cooked chips for mains. Whilst I ate the Brixham King scallops, burnt butter cauliflower, caviar followed by the Castlemead chicken, butternut squash, watercress dumplings, roasting juices. My food was delicious and the chicken left me wanting to go back for more! My husband was also very pleased with both of his courses too.

The children’s menu also offered a good choice of food for younger diners. The menu included options such as garden vegetables, pea hummus with flatbread, fish fingers chips and peas, meatballs, mashed potatoes and peas and my little on had a cheeseburger and chips followed by an ice cream of course!

Everything was extremely well presented including the drinks and the decor of the pub inside was also tastefully done.

We took a few toys for my toddler to play with at the table. There were no colouring sheets on offer, but when speaking to the bar staff they told me that this was something they were going to introduce to the pub. As a family we were all made very welcome.

Goswell & Bird’s Village Store

In addition to the pub there is also Goswell & Bird’s Village Store which sells everything from fresh flowers, bread, cheese, salad and vegetables and more. It was also lovely to see local Berkshire produce in the store including Oakdale Bees range. The store is really nicely decorated with a bit of seating outdoors and it’s been really nicely curated. I would highly recommend popping in for a shop if you visit the pub.
