About the The Great Shefford
The Great Shefford is located next to the river and is located on the edge of the village of Great Shefford, not far from the famous racing village of Lambourn. The pub is managed by the team behind King Charles Tavern in Newbury and The Broad Face in Abingdon.
The Dinning experience at The Great Shefford
Upon arrival we were warmly greeted in the bar area of the pub and taken to our table next to the window overlooking the river. The staff were all really welcoming, and we were extremely well looked after throughout our visit. Everyone also interacted with the children and made them feel welcome. They had highchairs for younger diners and we provided our own toys and colouring.
The menu was excellent, and I enjoyed Foie Gras & Chicken Liver Parfait, Crème De Cassis Reduction, Brioche to start and Monkfish, BBQ Baby Gem, Fondant Potato, Bacon Beurre Blanc for my main course. The children’s menu was varied and the children enjoyed some garlic bread for their starter and then had sausage, chips and peas and a tomato and basil pasta for mains. With all the important ice cream for their dessert! I was asked when we would like the children’s meals and elected to have it at the same time as each of my courses. The chef himself delivered my main course to me and talk me through the meal, which was a lovely touch.
As a lovely little surprise, whilst we were waiting for our starters, we enjoyed a mini homemade sourdough boule and homemade butter, which was just delicious.
The décor in the pub was lovely with decorative glasses, nice touches on the table from vases of flowers and candles. On the ceiling there are faux vines with little Robins, which kept the children entertained for a little while. There is also a private dining area at the side of the restaurant that was beautifully set up with faux plants in a little alcove.
We had a lovely meal at The Great Shefford, everyone was very welcoming and the food tasty too!
