(AD Disclaimer) I was paid to review Cook My Grub. Views are honest and those of Berkshire Mummies.
As you will know if you follow the Berkshire Mummies Blog and social channels I am a big advocate of championing Berkshire Businesses. Cook My Grub is a Maidenhead based company and I was delighted to be asked to order a meal using the Cook My Grub app.
All about Cook My Grub
Cook My Grub is an app which allows you to order home-made dishes that you can’t find on the high street and have them delivered to your door. The app offers a range of cuisines and allows you to access food cooked by home chefs. I found it re-assuring to know that as part of Cook My Grub’s Hygiene Promise, every chef is trained in allergy awareness and Hygiene Level 2. Internal audits are also carried out and all chefs are trained and supports them with local council registrations.
Ordering on the App
I found the Cook My Grub App straight forward to use. I noticed that there tended to be more food options available at the weekend compared to during the week but I assume as the business grows and more chefs join Cook My Grub there will be even more choice and availability.
On the app you select the home-cook you would like to purchase your food from, when you click into their page you can see what food they have to offer on the day you would like to order. There is a nice choice but not a full menu which you would get at a traditional takeaway – for me this made making a choice much quicker. Once you have selected your food, it then gets put into your basket where you pay. You are also able to order days before the delivery if you wish. On the day of delivery the app tells you an estimated delivery time – our food left the chef’s at 6pm and was delivered 20 minutes later. You can see on the app when the food is ordered, being prepared and out for delivery. The process was straight forward and worked well.
Review of the Food and Delivery
I received text messages from the Cook My Grub App when the food had left the chef and was en-route to be delivered with an ETA. I then got another text message to say the food was just arriving.
The food came in a paper bag and some of the containers were 100% compostable. I ordered my husband and I a Thai takeaway. The portions were a good size; we had spring rolls, Massaman Curry, Sticky Rice and a Thai Chicken and Rice Dish. We found the food all delicious, I picked this as we love Thai food but don’t cook it at home as it never tastes as good as genuine Thai so this was a real treat.
For our delivery area we could have chosen from Indian, East African, Pakistani, Punjabi or Mediterranean cuisine – so there was plenty of choice to select from.
