The Royal Windsor Flower Show is a fantastic one-day event held in the grounds of Windsor Great Park – it celebrates gardening, nature, cookery and crafts. It’s a lovely, traditional, family-friendly event. Read on for a review of the 117th Royal Windsor Flower Show.

A Family Tradition

This was our third year at the Royal Windsor Flower Show as a family and it has firmly become a family tradition and a place where we make core memories together. It’s a great event for all generations and three generations of our family attend each year.

What do we love about the Royal Windsor Flower Show?

We love the friendliness of the show and also the atmosphere. There is loads to do. It’s great as ticket numbers are capped for the event so it always feels nicely busy but not overly crowded. Each year we take part in the competition classes which certainly adds an extra element to the event for us, as we wait to see if we have been placed for a rosette or two!

There is the main show garden at the centre of the showground and also floral displays and garden displays to enjoy plus talks in the talks theatre covering a range of topics including gardening, floristry, wellness and cookery.

The children have plenty to get involved in from the Egg and Spoon Race to face painting, gardening, arts and craft activities, Punch and Judy, balloon modelling, Birds of Prey, croquet and more. For adults there is shopping, craft workshops, a chance to talk to top Great British plant nurseries, a flower arranging competition and more.

What Food and Drink is available?

There are a whole range of food and drink suppliers at the event. We always treat ourselves to an ice cream and this year enjoyed a Coworth Park Afternoon Tea (which you can pre-book, but be quick as this goes fast!) We attend the show for the whole day from 10am – 6pm so also take a picnic, which helps the children to keep going! We enjoy this alongside the live music which takes place throughout the day.

Competition Marquees

A highlight for us is the Competition Marquees – there is one for adults and one for children. We love entering and we put in lots of time and effort into our entries and it’s totally worth it to see our baking, crafts and gardening on the show bench. If we are lucky, we may come away with a couple of rosettes. What is great is each competition class is awarded a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place so this helps with the chances of placing and we enjoy the process of having the chance to be creative with our entries. If you would like to enter, keep an eye out for the Flower Show Competition Schedule, which normally comes out in March / April and explains each Competition Class and how to enter. This can be found on the website.
