Hidden within Tarman’s Copse, which is situated in Jennett’s Park, Bracknell you will discover several pieces of wooden artwork which make up The Green Man Sculpture Trail plus lots of little wooden houses – it’s a magical walk, with approx 20 things to spot. Some of the sculptures are found along the paths but others are tucked away in trees – make sure you look up high and low!

A bit about Tarman’s Copse
Tarman’s Copse is a 24 acre (9.68 hectare) area of ancient woodland. The woodland has been in continual use for over 400 years and would have once been part of the Easthampstead Park estate.
Where do you go to find The Green Man Sculptures?
We parked in the Jennett’s Park Community Hall Car Park (see details below) and then walked down Sparrowhawk Way and onto Blackcap Lane until we reached the edge of Tarman’s Copse. We then followed the path round to our right until we could saw the picnic table pictured below and the sign for Tarman’s Copse with map, the map also shows where three different play areas are. Our favourite is Jennette’s Hill Play Area as it is the largest. This is where we entered into the woodland and found our first two green men up in the trees.
After walking in the woods for a short while, we then turned right at another sign which said ‘Welcome to Tarman’s Copse’ (see picture below).
Go down this path, this is where we found some of the most impressive green men. We also found the ‘green eye’ and lots of little wooden houses – my children just loved the mini house and green eye and we had some great conversations that really sparked their imagination.
At the end of this path we then followed the path round to the left and looped back on ourselves and followed the path all the way round in a circle, finding another Green Man and miniature houses along the way.
We then continued along the main path, until it took us up to the main road, where you will see Osprey Park on the opposite side of the road. We carried on back through the woodland until we came back to where we started. We then found another impressive oak Green Man.
Before heading back to the car we decided to go to Jennette’s Park Play Area. If you stand next to the picnic table at the entrance to Tarman’s Copse and face with your back to the entrance and walk straight forwards you will get to the play area. You just need to walk up a path and cross the road but it’s literally a 1 minute walk away. In the play area you will find a play area for older children, an enclosed play area for younger children and a multisports area.
Is the walk Buggy and Dog Friendly
The walk is buggy friendly, just remember it is a woodland so an off road buggy is best, but the paths are flat and set routes through the copse.
The walk is also dog friendly.
What else can we do?
During the walk you will also discover some metal discs on wooden posts, you could take wax crayons and paper to take some rubbings.
There are four play areas situated around Tarman Copse, so this is a good place for a woodland adventure, play in the park and picnic.
The four play areas are;
Jennett’s Hill Play Area – this is the largest play area, which has a two play areas and a multipurpose pitch.
Osprey Park can be found on the edge of the copse and is the second largest play area.
There is then Pigeon Grove Play Area (which we haven’t explored but does not look massive on the map) and alsoRedstart Park which is a small play area and has a swing and see-saw.
There is also a shop opposite the community centre.
Peacock Meadows is also another walk based on Jennett’s Park which you may want to explore in the future, you can also connect it to this walk if you are up for a longer adventure. Tarman’s Copse and Peacock Meadows are a good walk apart for little legs however.
Where can I park?
The nearest parking is at the community hall on Tawny Owl Square, Bracknell, RG12 8EB, which is a flat walk and a couple of minutes walk from Tarman Copse. The what3words location for the car park is https://what3words.com/fade.haven.clock. Alternative you can park on the road.
