10 Family Friendly Things to do in Reading
1. MERL Museum – this is a lovely museum to visit and admission is free. It details the story of English rural life and farming, covering seasons, food, crops, machinery, carpet farming and much more. You can find out more on the website here.
2. Cole Museum of Zoology – The Museum is home to thousands of specimens of great zoological significance, including taxidermy, skeletons, fossil material, casts, and some superb models of extinct animals. You can find out more on the website here.
3. Reading Museum – another free to enter museum in Reading. They often hold children’s events and activities so it’s well worth a visit. You can find out more on the website here.
4. Prospect Park – the new play area here opened early 2023 and it’s great! It’s huge and has something for all ages and abilities. There is lots of accessible play equipment and some activity panels too for quieter play. You can read more about our visit here.
5. Beale Wildlife Park – this is a wonderful place to explore with children of all ages, no matter what time of year it is. There are plenty of places to play and lots of animals to see. You can read about our visit here.
6. Parthian Climbing – you can find the climbing wall venue just outside the town centre. They offer a variety of classes for children and half term sessions as well. You can find out more on their website here.
7. Christchurch Meadows – the area can be found along the River Thames, with a large play area which includes a wooden boat, sandpit, swings, climbing frames, zip wire and more. There is also a paddling pool and tennis courts. You can read more about our visit here.
8. Basildon Park – at this local National Trust site you can explore the main house, parkland, a formal garden and a children’s wild play trail. They also hold themed events throughout the year. You can read more about our visit here.
9. Reading Biscuit Factory – here you can watch films, live music, comedy and more. They have a kid’s club offering low priced screenings for adults and children on Saturday mornings. You can find out more here.
10. Oxygen Active Play, Reading – have multiple Interconnected Trampolines, an Excite Tunnel, Toddler Mini park, Giant Airbag, Parkour Bounce area, Interactive Sports Pitch and a fantastic Gladiator run!
