Here are some walks for New Years Day in Berkshire which you might like to try. New Years Day is a great day to get out in the fresh air after the festivities of New Years Eve.

New Years Day Walks in Berkshire
Snelsmore Common, Newbury – Walking at Snelsmore Common has lots of different walking route options and is made up of a range of habitats which include woodlands, wet mires and heathland. For a longer walk you can head over towards Donnington Castle – this is a circular walk of approximately 3.6 miles. The castle also makes for a good stop on its own.
Nature Discovery Centre, Thatcham – The Nature Discovery Centre is made up of a series of lakes. There are lots of birds to be seen so make sure you take binoculars for the children too. The paths are flat so good for buggies and dogs. There are also two good sized adventure playgrounds.
The Long Walk, Windsor – The walk is long and flat so good for buggies (scooters and bikes are not allowed). You can get impressive views of the Copper Horse at one end and Windsor Castle at the other.
Hurley Riverside is perhaps one of the most picturesque places we have found to walk in Berkshire. You can walk along the tow path and enjoy watching Hurley Lock in action.
The Look Out, Bracknell – The Look Out is set in Swinley Forest which is a lovely place to go walking around. You can also build dens here and there is a large play area.
Lily Hill Park, Bracknell – The Lily Hill Park is made up of 23 hectares of public open space which includes woodland areas, open green space, ponds, a boardwalk and sculptures plus plenty of wildlife and flowers. There are plenty of different paths to take and we love spotting all the sculptures.
Donnington Castle, why not go for a walk at Donnington Castle near Newbury. You could also visit Donnington Recreation Ground just down the road.
California Country Park, Wokingham – We went walking at California Country Park on a wet December day, but still had an enjoyable walk. The walk took us around Longmoor Lake which is a 0.9 mile walk, along flat paths. You can also extend this walk into the woodland. There is a great play area here too.
Lightwater Country Park is a brilliant open space to explore. Although the Country Park is in Surrey is isn’t far from the Berkshire boarder. The Country Park is just off junction 3 of the M3 between Bagshot and Lightwater.
Walk at The Jubilee River. The Jubilee river runs between Maidenhead and Windsor and is a 7.2 mile man-made flood relief channel which was was completed in 2002 the year of the Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee, hence the name Jubilee River. It’s a flat walk, with wildlife to see and bike paths if you fancy cycling.
