Symmetry is all around us in nature, on buildings and in art. This brick symmetry activity not only exercises the brain but it also uses fine motor skills.

What do I need for this activity?
You will need some bricks of any size – Lego, Duplo or Mega Blocks or something similar would be great. Make sure you have two identical bricks available of each sort on offer for the activity to work.
If you have a board you can use that otherwise a flat surface will work just as well.
What do we need to do for this activity?
- Make a pattern with the bricks down in a straight line (see picture).
- Then leave a gap and mirror the pattern with some other bricks (see picture).
Extension Activity
Can you make a symmetrical butterfly by folding a piece of paper in two, painting the butterflies wings on one side, folding the paper over and opening it up again to reveal a beautiful butterfly?
