It amazing that there is so much going on locally for the family in Berkshire during the holidays, it’s one of the reasons we enjoy living in the area, we love to get out and about, making memories and getting involved in the community.
However, I feel it’s also important for us to have some downtime at home or be out in the fresh air with nature, whether in the garden, the park or woods plus it also helps financially if we can do some free or cheap activities as well. I also know that I need to have the school holiday days planned and structured as this seems to help ensure everyone is happy and busy throughout the holidays.

Here are 20 ideas of free or low cost ideas for the holidays which I find useful.
Do some baking
Visit the library
Photo challenge – eg. capture seasonal photo
Make a scrapbook of your holiday
Do a water colour challenge
Fly a kite
Build a den
Visit the pound shop
Make seasonal cards and / or thank you cards
Go on a scavenger hunt
Visit the park

Play a board game
Jump in muddy puddles (if raining obviously!)
Have a movie afternoon
Go on a woodland adventure

Have a ‘disco’
Plant something
Put on a show / performance
Many of the above ideas are actually things I did during my childhood – I have some great memories and am sure my children now will make some too.
